I am in voluntary self isolation because of the current pandemic. On a normal day when the world was normal (before Trump and Corona Virus), I would be out camping, hiking, and enjoying nature unspoiled by people,,,the spoilers. I miss it.
Then I ran across earthwalking13’s blog post. I am sitting at home in front of a computer, reading and for a short time it conjured up and took me to the places I really want to be….
Underground Cartoonist is a former ICU nurse that has worked at numerous civilian, military, and veteran Intensive Care Units across the country for better than three decades but has been sketching, drawing, and cartooning since he first picked up a crayon in kindergarten. Dabbled with political cartooning, writing, and general illustrations but the bread and butter came from health care. Recently left professional nursing to concentrate on camping, hiking, nature, the outdoors, trees, trails, and peace of mind. Love a campfire; rather watch it than TV. Avoid bureaucracy, career ladders, ladder climbers, and hero worship at all cost. Evenings spent with a good book, reading until the book smacks my nose when I doze off. Generally up at sun rise, listen to the mourning doves, put the coffee on, and play it by ear the rest of the day.

I can’t give this piece the time it deserves right now,
But….
“Volcaniclastic etchings. Sketchbooks of ancient history. A geological narrative. Of eternity.”
I am not in isolation, my job is a good enough excuse to go out.
I am allowed to go to my alloted vegetable garden, anything else will be illegal. I cannot promise I will not eventually break this law.
It is not my habit to be unquestioningly obedient.

If it keeps you virus free do it. You don’t want to be medically paralyzed on a ventilator nor suffer ventilator barotrauma and fibrosis afterward…What’s growing in the garden? (my wife wants to know)
My vegetables grow mostly by accident, my intervention is generally limited to obsessive weeding and allowing my favoured plants to go to seed.
I have time this year to sow some seed and it is about time I do.
I have a largish mature apple tree and a smallish maturing pear tree and raspberries and strawberries run wild and I plant vegetables in the gaps. A couple of years ago a pumpkin managed to climb up amongst the raspberries and run from one end of the plot to the other without touching the ground, but I’ve not been able to repeat that magic.
Need to get some more seeds in the ground.
